Hi, I have had a Smeg Integrated Fridge (S/N 911241157) for 7 years and recently it has been getting slightly warmer. I have set the thermostat to the highest setting i.e 5 but it is still not cold enough and food and milk is going off quickly. There is condensation on the inside back wall but apart from that the seals are fine, it’s not in the sun or in high temperatures and I can hear the compressor going on and off. Is it a simple repair I could perform or a terminal illness? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

    Hi Mammet,

    Tough one.

    What model is it?

It sounds like a compressor failure TBH on the face of it, which isn’t good I’m afraid.

It is an FR 158 SE/1 model and since my initial post on this site I have taken the fridge out and checked the rear and everything seems to be in order and the little cooling fan runs when the compressor switches on. I have tried unscrewing the thermostat inside the fridge on the rear wall but it appears to be very difficult to remove. Could it be a thermostat problem and is there a techinque for removing/checking/replacing if necessary?

    Thank you

    Manmeet
