ParticipantHello
I bought a Maytag Trilogy from the C*met clearance site a few weeks ago which was duly (if lately, incompetently and protractedly – but that’s a WHOLE other story!) delivered this afternoon. I’ve been out since it was dumped in my kitchen at c.2pm so have just got home and was going to plug it in when I noticed an earth wire poking out of the hole where the door pins go at the top of the appliance. There’s just half an inch of wire, not connected to anything which kind of got me worried. Should it be connected to anything? Is it safe to plug the blimmin thing in? I don’t trust my ancient circuit breaker to protect me! 🙁
I need to know in a hurry really as I don’t have the room for 3 refrigeration appliances in my kitchen…
PS – I’ve taken a photo but I’m not quite sure how to post it.

KeymasterErr, I’d doubt it is safe I’m afraid. Or, out it this way, if you do and it goes “fizzle, pop”, blows the trip and dies don’t be a bit surprised.
It will be intended to be connected to something for sure, it sure ain’t intended to be left open like that.
Photo’s you can post using the image ([img]) tags to an external site like putfile or photobucket. Or you can email them to admin (admin@ukwhitegoods.co.uk) and we can post them for you.

A photo would certainly help 😉
tp post a pic, open an account with an image library such as photobucket (just supply an email addy), load the image(s) up to that site then cut and paste the link in a reply here on the forum….
Until it’s established that the wire is either unimportant, or shouldn’t be there then we couldn’t possibly recommend plugging the machine in i’m afraid.
IIRC some of the Maytags do have an earth strap for the door which attaches to the top hinge…

Here’s a wee (big!) pic – probably doesn’t tell you much though!

Dunno what to do now… 🙁

KeymasterLooks like an earth wire to me, but I’ve never worked on a Trilogy. 😕
