    Hello all,

My Hotpoint Washer-Dryer (I know, shoot me for buying it) has failed on me this evening. I popped the dryer on, and within 5 minutes it started smelling of burning and the code FR-13 was flashing on the LED display.

Obviously I won’t be using the dryer now, will the washing machine still work?

I hate the thing, but it’s only 2 years old. Is it worth repairing or shall I cut my losses and find another (better) washing machine to sit in my kitchen?

I moved home 2 months ago, and the machine took a battering when I moved – all of the buttons on the front have dislodged from their normal places. I couldn’t even turn it off on the front when it started smelling of burning – had to power it off at the mains.

If anyone wants to be nice and advise me on my next purchase – I don’t mind what it is as long as it’s silver – it must be silver!!!

    Thank you 🙂

f13 is a dryer related fault

usually the thermistor to be honest.. but it could be any number of factors… jammed fan/blocked condenser/faulty heter/tripped saftety stat or fuse!!/ possible board & eprom problem

in an ideal world it shouldnt affect the washer side of things, but this is a merloni machine we’re talking about – the reason being that the newer versions of machines do a self test before starting a full progra ( which is why it takes water for 3 seconds, then pauses before continuing!) – so any apparant fault will show itself and stop u from using it

if your any good with a multimeter, then WITH THE PLUG OUT, test the components on the heater box at the top, if not… im sure ukwhitegoods could advise you a reputable engineer in your area

    hope this helps
