ParticipantHi – I have noticed that my washing is coming out of the machine feeling squeaky and rough. I use washing liquid in a ball in the machine, and fabric conditioner in the soap drawer. I have checked and noticed that about 5 minutes into its cycle, the soap box drawer is completely empty, i.e. all the fabric conditioner has already gone, so I am assuming that somehow the conditioner is being washed in with the washing at the start of the cycle, the machine is then having to cope with washing with the liquid & the conditioner at the same time, and then has no conditioner to put in at the end.
Any ideas why it would be doing this? I have thoroughly cleaned out the drawer and compartment, although I haven’t scrubbed the ceiling of the compartment. The machine seems to be running its usual length of time too.
Thanks

Good advice here on why you should use powder or tablets, not liquids.
http://tinyurl.com/2q2lb7By far the most common reason for the fabric conditioner going in at the start of the cycle is twofold, the conditioner compartment is being filled to the brim and the drawer is then slammed shut. The conditioner compartment drains itself by means of a syphon tube, if you push the drawer in to vigorously with the compartment filled to the top this can cause the conditioner to syphon into the drum at the beginning.
Don’t overfill the compartment and close the drawer gently. Don’t open the drawer whilst it is actually filling to check as this can also direct the water into the wrong compartment.
Giving the ‘ceiling’ a good clean is also essential.
If you have followed this and the problem still persists then you may have a component failure.

Hi Jim
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I am closing the drawer gently and not overfilling the compartment. I will give cleaning the ceiling a go, but otherwise, sounds like an engineer visit.
Thanks for the advice on the powder/tablet thing too.
