ParticipantWhat is a typical tolerance on the oven temperature compared with the setting?
I have had two of AEG/Electrolux’s Competence ovens which have failed to get within 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and 8{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} respectively of the set temperature for even 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time they have been on. From turning on the oven to the bleeps telling me that the set temperature has been reached is about 10 minutes. The actual temperature at this time is less than half the set temperature. After 2 hours the oven is still only peaking at the 10 & 8{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} below set temperature and dropping to 15-20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} below the set temperature. Is this usual? Does anyone have figures for other ovens?

Hi elroycanard,
10-15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} is perfectly normal and accepted tolerance. But more important is the mean temperature not the range in which it cycles. If it cycles low then it may well be a stat or thermistor problem, I’m unfamiliar with the model but I can offer generalisations.
How are you measuring the temperatures as cheap oven and fridge thermometers are notoriously inaccurate?

Participantget two oven themometers and take the mean avg
of both,in my experiance aeg ovens tend to read a bit lowDecember 6, 2007 at 7:49 am #236065elroycanard

Thanks for the responses. Due to AEG/Electrolux’s swift response and willingness to help (not – it only took them 10 months), I went out and bought a multimeter, which I needed anyway, that had a temperature function on it. This gives me +- 1 degree Clsius accuracy up to 250 deg C and confirms your comment about the cycling. The mean temperature over 2 hours was around 15 degrees below the set temperature ie 135. when set at 150 Celsius.
Appreciate the response.

ParticipantTheonly way to test is to use a digital thermomiter, turn the oven on for 30 mins then take the temperatures at which the thermostat cuts in and out, eg thermostat cuts out at 210c and cuts back in at 190 = average temp of 200c, I generally let the oven cycle 3-4 times to get an accurate figure.
If you are using anything other than a digital thermomiter to do this test then you may as well just put your hand in the oven to get the temp, taking the temp after only 10 mins is a waste of time too.
