ModeratorHow do Hotpoint get away with selling this stuff. I have fitted four sets of brushes to this pile of junk. Mind you it is over 25 years old 😉 and apart from brushes and a bit of surgery to the console switches ( they tended to break off and push in) it is entirely original, door seal, pump, motor etc, just have a look how clean the backplate is. 8) 🙂
Hotpoint Microtronic 18871, fully electronic, digital display and at the time we thought they were poor. 😳

I’ll bet its a while since you last saw one, I can give you the ladys address if you want to run your hands over it. 😆
I also did a 1700098 heater spiral kit in a 17 year old Hotpoint dryer this afternoon as well. 8)

Canny folk, they listen to me when I tell them how to care for their machines. 😀
TBH there has always been a large proportion of Hotpoint/BDA/GDA stuff in this area. A large Osram factory ( sadly no more ) and major plants in Trafford Park meant lots of staff sales over the years.Jim.

I have to uncover the truth in fairness and that’s not an entirely true statement…
You keep trying to sell them ISE10’s so you KNOW you won’t be selling a new one every three years. 😉

‘Old 9605 motor’, thats a baby, what about the really old 1500/01/02/04 four pole motor.
Believe it or not, I was partly responsible for the clutch housing on the small, two pole motor having 2 anti squeal springs on it. The original pulley was tiny and more than 50 {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the new machines would not spin correctly out of the box. They increased the size of the pulley, changed the clutch and when I suggested that two springs would dissipate the heat and reduce clutch slip they tried it and found that it did indeed have an effect.
We had a suggestion scheme going at the time and I got a nice little piece of paper and £25.00 for my suggestion. 🙂 In those days they occasionally listened to their engineers. 😥

Sorry.
I suppose it’s just typical of the frustration of the independent repairer these days – I can fix it, make it work, but I can’t make it better. That slightly numb feeling when you leave a customer and just know you’ll be seeing them again. Probably fairly soon.

KeymasterNo need to apologise to me Chris.
It used to be that the more they broke the better. These days however many people just chuck ’em out in disgust and, that’s sad.

what about the new price structure? how much wil that hurt everyone? if a bearing failed before easy(ish) call, just bearings & labour, now with sealed tanks how many independants can supply and fit a drum & any other bits for under the new £99 charge for all 5-10 yr old machines?
