Participanthi guy’s.
been to a hotpoint ff72p which is showing -22 in freezer, but fridge not cold(+18), i realised that the fan was not cutting in, hence no circulation to fridge compartment.i have cleaned out condenser and checked pot cooling fan is running ok, and fitted yellow and green thermistors(just in case)
metered and checked evap fan motor.
switched off, and restarted in service mode, and fan goes like a good ‘un
but then stops when returns to normal.evaporator has good even glaze across it (looks perfectly normal), compressor is not excessively hot – again, seems normal.
would be grateful of any ideas before i go and blow almost £100.00 on a pcb module.
thanks, 😉

Is the door closing the door switch, unless this is closed the fan wont run.
I would check the flap valve as well, push the door switch in and you should hear valve open or close.December 14, 2007 at 8:24 am #237043Simon46

Have you given the evaporator time to get cold? Fan wont run otherwise.

I dont doubt that it doesnt work but the doors on these are prone to dropping so when the door is closed the switch doesnt make.

did you take the fan surrond off completly? sometimes a small layer of frost wil build up across the top of evaporator which cant be seen without removing the surround

I’ve been caught out a couple of times shoved in thermistors, check in quick start up mode fan runs then wait for fan to start when it cools down, off i went thinking that was it job done, only to be recalled later same fault had to change the fan motor to cure, only 3 times now in the hundreds i’ve repaired but alomst always catches you out.

ok, thanks for your replies, much appreciated,
but still cant make sense of it, thought i had covered all angles and want you guy’s input to make sure i ain’t overlooking something.
think i covered everything mentioned so far(except changing fan motor)-
ruled that out as meters out o.k, and runs in service mode?
also, the fact there is no error code (i know they aren’t brill on these), so that just left me thinking must be the old favourite -the p.c.b?
although, i cannot remember ever fitting one before.
will be an expensive c@ck up if i get it wrong!are there any other possibilities?
thanks again for your replies,

Neil I was involved in these things from the start, special meetings and all that jazz and I have found the modules to be very reliable on this model.
One othe thing that can go wrong is where the wires are connected i the freeze compartment behind the plastic shroud.Sometimes small bits of ice forms on them and causes some weird faults, dry it thouroughly and apply a smear of vaseline or something over the spade connectors to prevent it.Also check that the connectors show no signs of burning as I have seen these burn out where they are foamed into the back panel.December 14, 2007 at 11:09 pm #237050whizzkid

cheers kiddo,
as i said i have never fitted one before, so that normally put’s you off them when they aren’t known to be dodgy / suspect.
thats why i am posting up on here ‘cos i think i’d be wasting me pennies!
know what you mean about terminal blocks burning, have seen that before.(although i didnt notice any when i metered fan)
thanks very much for your help, i will go and scratch my head a bit more and have one last look to go through everything again.
thanks,
