ParticipantG’day,
Fisher and Paykel washing machine
Model No. GW709AU
Fault Code: 131I followed advise on this site a while ago and cleaned the rotor position sensor, with success.
A couple of months have passed and the washing machine again displays the same fault code, indicating the rotor position sensor. I replaced it today and still the same problem. Won’t fill/wash/spin-turns on for 1 second then shuts off, repeats this for a minute then stops altogether. Does fault code 131 refer to other problems that i need to look at?
Also, it seems like the sensor can be fitted/slotted into more than one position on the armature. Is this correct or does it need to go in a particular position to work properly? I couldn’t see any position marks and didn’t pay enough attention when I pulled it out.
Getting frustrated…any advise appreciated.
Cheers, Dave

RPS board should only fit in the correct position. little plastic clip will locate into the slot.
With a pair of pliers gently crimp the plug to close up the contacts, they may have spread and give a poor connection to the board.
Have you fitted the wiring to the motor on the correct terminals R B Y marks are moulded into the stator plastic.
Controller may have failed or you could have a broken wire in the loom.December 17, 2007 at 9:58 pm #237057davicgia

G’day,
Replaced the RPS in the correct slot, closed up the plug connections a bit, checked all terminations and accessible wiring from the bottom and looks ok. Same 131 fault code however.
Kiwireeferman suggested the motor controller board, I assume this is under the control panel at the top? How can I identify it, or is it the only board there. Haven’t pulled the top off yet.
Can I test the board, or do i have to just buy a new one and hope it fixes the fault?
Cheers, Davicgia

If there was a problem with the RPS board it may have damaged the motor control module. Two screws on the back of the console, then lift off.
The motor control module is the lower one. yours will be a Grey colour.
Part number is 425260 or 425260X You should find a rebuilt module at a reasonable price. The RPS is very finicky are you sure it’s positioned correctly ❓
If your sure all else is OK then I think the module is your problem.
They cant be tested in the field, you just have to eliminate all other possibilities.MAKE SURE you disconnect the power before starting. ❗

G’day,
Amazing how esay it is when you look at the markings on the machine!
Pulled the bottom end apart again and this time fitted the RPS into the correct position, as indicated by the arrow and locating slot. Cleaned the RPS plug contacts and squeezed them together a bit.
Goes like a new one!! 😀
Thanks Kiwireeferman for the advice, you have saved me a fortune.
Cheers, Dave

the saga continues…
machine washed ok a few times and has again stopped with same fault code etc
to chk the wiring loom is it just a continuity from the RPS up to the controller board or do i need to megger the wires as well?
when i remove the 2 screws and the top cover, is the motor controller board the one attached to the inside of the cover or the larger board which stays with the body of the machine?
unless i can be sure the board is stuffed i’m reluctant to spend any more on the machine in a never ending fault finding mission. might be time to get rid of it, pity as what i can see of the motor, bearings, seals etc it is in perfect condition, no leaks etc
cheers, Dave

It’s a low current circuit, so continuity test should be sufficient.
Motor controller is the lower board.
