ParticipantDon’t know what the cross country picture is but I had to take my car to my Garage to get it MOTed. I have used this reliable garage for some years and know the owner as well as the workshop foreman.
I noticed that all the ramps were empty of vehicles, I asked if they were busy? Nah was the reply, we have been like this for the last six weeks !
Yikes ! I said, How worrying this must be with wages, overheads all still needing to be found, I wished them a merry christmas and said I really hoped trade recovered soon. From there I called into my local Currys superstore, I know a couple of sales people there. They saw me arrive and grabbed me for a chat, I asked if they were busy. Ha they said Busy, its dead and sales are practically non exsistant !
Now we are busy thank god and have been for some months now, the thing is if the sheds are not selling cashflow is a basic requirement for any business and if this picture is typical across the country then peole are pullling their belts in at a time when people are normally spending.
Less VAT for the goverment, Less profit for the Card companies and banks, less turnover for the stores and manufacturers.
It makes me wonder what 2008 has in store for us all ?
How you all finding things out there ?

I must say that I have been busier this last couple of weeks than I usually am at this time of year, have also done 5 ISE installs this week including one £600 + dryer 😯 . I went to the Trafford Centre today to do my one stop Christmas shopping and it was heaving.
Ten calls in tomorrow, seven before dinner on Saturday then feet up until Thursday morning. 8)

I wonder if people are waiting for January and hoping that “the sales” will bring some price reductions. Wait and see I suppose.

Busier than I’ve ever been at the moment.
I’ve even turned down about 5 calls today (already had 10 in) cos I’m putting me tools on ice for two weeks 😀 .

We’ve been busier than ever although the phone actually slowed down today. Sales of new machines has slowed significantly over the last month, but repairs have bolstered this nicely, contract work is busier than ever but this is mainly due i suspect to our increase in goegraphical coverage area….in fact we are even considering reducing the area again as we have started to lose one or two cash jobs on the local patch due to the lead times for a service call 😕
With the relatively gloomy economic forecasts for 2008 (credit much harder to obtain, rising mortgage costs, less job security etc) we are looking forward to a steady increase in repairs 😀
