Hi – hope you can help…

After defrosting my Smeg Fridge Freezer, the freezer would not restart (the fridge part works fine!). I’m pretty sure its the compressor that’s gone. The unit’s 2 and a half years old, so out of guarantee period.

I’ve had a quote to fix it from Smeg’s authorised repairer in my area, which seems hugely expensive to me, and I think it’s a try on. So, two questions….

1) Am I going to be restricted to authorised repairers due to availabilty of parts etc….
2) Anyone give me an idea of a realistic cost for the repair.
