Sister called me to her Hotpoint WT540 washing machine as it was leaking water from underneath. Turned off the power and water and opened the lid, no leaks from the fill chamber, tipped on its end and pump hoses etc intact.
removed filter from the front of the machine and removed various items, nails, coins etc – replaced filter.
Restored the power,water and lid now the on/off button is flashing rapidly and the wash enhance and reduced creases buttons are flashing around once per second.
Have tried leaving the machine for a while and powering down to reset…to no avail.

Can you give us the flashing option lights by number from the top down?
When you say, tipped it on its end, which end? If you tipped it upside down you may have done considerable damage to the machine.

yes lamps one and two, thats top to bottom.
I tilted the machine to nearly flat on its side.Facing the facia of the machine it was tilted to the right, when i looked underneath(from the L.H.S side) the pump was to the right and there was a printed circuit board to the rear left.

Not the best way to tip it, you risk the possibility of dripping water into the electronics that way. you should tilt the machine forwards.
Lights one + two signify a communications error so you have either got the board wet or possibly dislodged some connections. Some of the board contacts are very frail. You could try a gentle blow with a hairdryer and reseating all the module contacts including the one to the console module at the top front of the machine, plug out as always.
