ParticipantHi folks its been a while since I was last on, to the extent that I’ve actually forgotten my old nickname and password. Oh well such is life, as we get older we tend to forget. Anyway I’m seeking some more expert advise. I’ve been asked to look at my sisters Hotpoint Aquarius FDW60 Dishwasher as it is not working. So I popped round this evening and was confronted by a dishwasher that will power up but fails to run any programs. After selecting a program the machine will start but then stops and starts flashing the ECO45 light. Does anyone know if this is a valid error code and also what the fault indicates?
As you guys can appreciate, christmas has only just been and gone so money is a little tight at the moment so to call out an engineer is an expense that she would preffer to avoid and anyway her brother is a qualified electrical/electronics engineer so she’s hoping I can fix it. Any advise of a technical nature would be greatly appreciated.

Always best to give the fault codes by the light number from the left.
In this instance I am assuming that it is light 3. If so then it has a flooded base.Place a few towels on the floor and tilt the machine to one side. If you get water running out then allow it to dry and try it again. If it runs fine then problem almost solved. If it fails within a short while then there is a leak that needs investigating and repairing. Plug out at all times of course.
When I say almost solved, one of the main causes of flooding on these Indesit machines is oversoaping due to using 3 in 1, 4 in 1 or 5 in 1 tablets. You would be well advised to use separate detergent, rinse aid & salt if required. You could also try Fairy Active Bursts which don’t cause over soaping in the same way that tablets do.

A quick visit this evening confirmed that the base of the machine is filling up with water. I drained it off and the machine worked I also gave it a quick examination to see if there was any obvious leaks, to which I couldn’t find anything. Anyway, I’ve just had a call to say it has stopped again with the same fault being displayed so its going to have to wait until Saturday when the kids are out.
Thanks for your help in pointing me in the right direction. One more question if I may, do you know if there is anything that is prone to leaking on them?

Nothing thats stands out, I have seen the small flow sensor just above the main circulation pump come adrift but that would have been obvious and would have flooded out. Sometimes the seal around the sump leaks and is a real pain to change. hoses leaks do tend to be obvious as well. There is no evidence of mice around is there, they love to nibble the hoses inside dishwashers. Over flowing due to detergent is still the most common cause. What type of detergent is being used and have they also got rinse aid in the dispenser as well?
Try the machine on a full cycle without any dishes or detergent, making sure there is no rinse aid in if possible.

Found the leak! The rotating spray bar had somehow managed to slacken the securing nut inside the dish washer and as a result the seal was leaking. Tightened her up and that appears to have resolved the problem.
I’m now being told that it doesn’t appear to be washing the dishes as well as it once did. Could this be something I’ve done or is it due to the wash tablets she’s now using in light of the advice you gave 😕 (Hardly a technical question I know, but I thought I should ask).Cheers for the pointers Jim :tright:

Might be a good idea to run a dishwasher cleaner through the machine to clear any gunge in the works etc.
