ParticipantHi
My Nextra washer / dryer has just started blowing cold air on the tumble cycle. Which ever heat cycle, low or high, it’s the same, just cold, cold air.
Something simple like a thermostat reset or more likely a heater element?
Thank you

Participantunplug it, take the top off, look on the silver heater box, and see if there is any resettable thermostats
if they reset, then good, question is, why?
usually a blocked condenser to be fair
try resetting them first, if it keeps happening, clean out the condenser
hope that helps?
just make sure its unplugged, please!!!

Thanks. I’ll take my 8mm spanner home, take out the plug, and have a look.

ParticipantThanks for your replies, and sorry I haven’t got back to you sooner!
Result, took the lid off )after unplugging the machine) and one of the pins on the thermostat “clicked” and reset. Worked fine when I tried it.
It ran for a week or so, then last night, cold air again. Haven’t taken the lid off yet, but assume its the same fault.
So does anyone know how to clean the condenser (as earlier suggested)? Or, does anyone have any other clues as too what could be the cause?
Thanks for any help!

Participantit will be the condeser blocked
youll have to take it off, its not something we can go into greatly
but its the plastic tube attatched to the fan, and the rear of the tub, it needs cleaning out
wear protective gloves too, theres some nasty sharp edges in there.

Ah, i looked at that when the lid was off. It goes from the fan at the back of the machine, up to the front door seal. Fairly sure thats the one.

It is an all plastic chamber that goes from the fan housing at the top, down the back of the machine into a rubber hose and into the rear of the drum assembly.

ParticipantHi
I have removed the aluminium casing tube which goes from the fan at the back of the drum to the the front door seal. This is where the heating element and trip switches are housed.
After splitting it, inside its completely clean.
There are 2 trip reset switches, and its always the ledft hand side on that needs resetting. I’m gonna swap the two over. If the same switch trips again, I’ll assume the switch is at fault.
What does anyone else think?

You obviously didn’t read my last post, or helo_75’s earlier 😀
The condensor is the plastic tube at the back, not at the front of the machine. It will almost certainly be blocked. The only way to clean it is to completely remove it from the machine, a very fiddly, difficult job TBH. The thing you have opened up is the heater box, the stat is more than likely OK.
To reiterate, the condensor is at the very BACK of the machine and it is plastic, not metal. Its shaped like a boomerang. 😉

ParticipantWoohoo. It works. Bit of a fiddle getting it out, but managed OK. Cleaned it out at work with compressed air, the amount of fluff and tissue that came out of it was unbelievable.
The dryer comes on straight away now. It used to hesitate sometimes but now its “spot on”.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Just wanted to say a big thank you for this post. I’ve been searching for help with this exact problem for a while now. I’m as technical as Noddy- no, actually he’s probably more technically minded than me :rotfl: . So thank you iadom for the solve, hoping you’ve saved me replacing the whole thing 😀 . Just need to get a 7mm nut spinner…

Hi
I have had the same problem with heating elements in my appliance, I have changed the washer element and now have hot water during the washing cycle. But I have changed the large element fir the dryer, replaced both resettable thermostat – although I lost one of there screws and finally completely cleaned out the condense pipe. With all that done I’ve tested the drying cycle and still no heat….please help? -
