Occassionally my Whirlpool 642 Dishwasher finishes a wash cycle and then starts the cycle all over again. It started doing this some months ago but very intermittently. Now the frequency has increased and I am concerned about turning it on when we are out. It does however, only run for one additional cycle.
Please can you help with any suggestions? I can take the machine apart in necessary.

17 different vesrions of this machine – would need full model number or, better still, the 12nc code – this is the one that starts with 8.

Right – you have the mechanical timer machine. Running on through the end of the programme is almost certainly a problem with the timer. It is a mechanical switching unit – if the ident at the progamme end doesn’t work, it’ll carry on round.

P/no 4812 905 08254; around £70 last time I checked. It’s an older machine and that price will be plus VAT and P+P, so you may like to have a think about what to do next……..

Thanks a bundle for your advice. As you point out – I will have to consider whether it is worth replacing the timer for that money or investing in a new machine.
In the meantime it’s rubber gloves or double time on the machine.

    All the best,

    John
