ParticipantI have problem with a NEFF U1661 oven:
Fan and lights operate but oven doesn’t heat up. I’ve replaced the element (old one looked knackered) but problem still exists.
However I’ve also noticed that the grill element in lower oven doesn’t work, but the element in the base of the oven does heat up.
All control lights appear to work normally as does clock and timer.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

jlwah, you say the old element looked knackered but did you test it with a meter to test continuity? if it tested ok then a new element won’t fix the fault…

Or it has gone bang and blown another component on oven.. Have you old style fusebox or new RCD consumer unit?
Remove power if going in.

No, I didn’t test it, but the element had partially crumbled away at the lowest point.
Also, I wasn’t aware of it going ‘bang’. It simply worked before and then switching the oven on the next time, it didn’t.
The house is quite modern and has an RCD consumer unit, but that didn’t trip out.
Thanks for the replies

Anyone got any other suggestions as to the source of the problem?
Has anyone contacted NEFF in the past for technical assistances and if so, were they helpful?

ParticipantDid you replace the rear element from inside the oven cavity ? These elements sometimes have more than one connection on the element connections and these can get pulled off when removing the old element . Power off if you need to investigate further

Yes, it was accesible from inside the oven. It had two connections which were replaced on the same terminals on the new element and I’m pretty sure they were secure when inserted back through the oven back plate.

Do you mean there were two cables , one for each terminal on the rear of the element ?
If i remember correctly , there’s more than 2 cables . One`may have come off as you drew the element forward .If thats not the case then , as Simon says , it may be time for an engineer .

Removed rear cover and found disconnected wire, exactly as you had thought. However, on reconnection the fan stopped working.
There are two sets of connections with white / red wires and one set with white / black wires. I assumed (often a dangerous thing to do) that the white / red wires would be connected to the same terminal on the element, is this correct?
