ParticipantWe have just moved into a new house and we believe the kitchen was totally replaced 5 years ago when it was totally rebuilt in a new part of the house. It has a built-in DIPLOMAT mod. APL 3201 IX. Yesterday the oven would not get up to temperature, luke warm inside after 20 minutes, pasta bake was a real failure…
I tried the grill and this still worked; I then presumed the clock had been “adjusted” I have two young kids who love any buttons. So I re-set to manual, got the little hand up, changed to the correct time and adjusted start time. Then everything stopped working except the clock. Surprisingly the clock has managed to keep good time over the last 20 hours, but everything else has failed, even the little light doesn’t come on.
Is 5 years it’s expected life ? Do I just replace ? We have just moved and with Xmas we are totally skint….. So what can I replace ? Do I just take it to bits and look for something obvious ?
Please help,
Mark

Hi Mark,
It will just be the fan element that’s popped on it which you can get from the shop using this link and it’s fairly easy to replace. If you’re not confident you can imagine that a repair would cost between £50 and £80 depending on who does it and where you are, but that would be a reasonable price to have it done if required.

Hi K
Thanks for the response. If it is just the fan element, how come now the grill has stopped working too. Well everything except the clock !!!
Initially the oven appeared to be working, it just did not get up to temperature i.e. the light didn’t go off when set at 200; then when I opened the door, I noticed it was only warm and not hot. But at least if I turned the temp control down to 50, the light went off.
Then when I fiddled with the clock and buttons, it all stopped working…
Have I bust it completely or when the fan element goes does it switch off totally ?
Regards,
Mark

But in the original post you said the grill worked.
If everything is dead, clock or possibly a safety stat goosed.
If you’ve messed with the clock and put it on auto then the whole lot will die bar the clock working. This article give a basic rundown on clock functions. But until you establish what bit is failed it’s difficult to advise.

Wow, next day delivery; took longer to find my tools than fit the heater coil and new lamp.
All up and working again for under £30, better than before as we’ve also got a light now !!!
Thank you very much and I’ll recommend this service any opportunity I get.
