ParticipantHi
Ive had this frost free FF about 3 years but for the last year or so the fridge contents at the bottom of fridge are freezing. ( Thermostat on warmest setting 1)
When this happens ( every 2/3 months or so) I remove the plastic and polystyrene back from inside the freezer compartment and there is a large block of ice on the cooling fins found there.
I defrost this lot, put it all back together and its ok for another couple of months.
Ive checked the defrost tube that leads to a small plastic box at the back( bottom) but that seems ok( not blocked)
Is there any suggestions on how I can fix this problem ?
Thanks

I have to say I’m not exactly overwhelmed by the response to my question
I’ve read the general help articles which are interesting but hoped someone here could give me some specific advice regarding this particular model and the problem I’m encountering.

Sorry missed this one – could you let me have the serial number of the appliance and then I can give a detailed answer.

I would suggest that you have a fault with the defrost heater that is attached to the front of the fins, either that or the supply to it. Part number for the defrost heater is 524010100 available from the shop@.
Hope that helpsJanuary 25, 2008 at 8:51 pm #240456billz

How do I check if its the heater or its supply?

If you can use a multimeter check for a resistance across the heater connectors, if you cant use a multimeter then you need a fridge engineer, try repairs@

Just an update on this post
It turned out that a defrost sensor had failed.
I tried to get Comet to repair this under the sale of goods act
they declined
I got a recommendation from this site for ‘autowash’ to repair this unit which they eventually did.
I had problems with this firm and I would not recommend them
Even less when I found out from Comet who I took to the small claims court and WON btw.
During the court case it came out that the defrost sensor that autowash supplied to me at £29.96 excluding Vat costs comet under £6 and and even with their mark up they apparently charge less than a tenner for.
Well, thanx Autowash for the rip off prices and the lousy service and thanx to Comet for fighting me all the way and losing as you rightly deserved to do
Lets hope I don’t have to send in the bailiffs to recover my money
I wouldn’t touch these people again with a bargepole

There are always two sides to every story – just remember that the company that came out to you only ordered 1 item whilst Comet have the benefit of mass purchasing ie economies of scale. I cannot comment on the service of either company you will just have to draw your own conclusion.

“two sides to every story”
Yes, and regarding comet, my side was adjudged the correct.
As for autowash I appreciate the economy of scale argument but well over 3 times the cost, cmon
The part was a few wires and 3 plastic connectors £34.44 including VAT
Comets price £5.13 + 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark up =£9.23 +vat £1.38= £10.61.
As for the service I say as I find.

ParticipantFrom what I read on these posts recently is that everybody is taking retailers to court for appliances that breakdown we live in a world that things breakdown am I taking ford to court because my rear door switch has failed the answer is no it is used so it will fail in its life sometime sooner or later we all hope later.
Would I buy a light bulb and after 3 years take it back to tescos because it failed they will not change it so I will take them to court is getting to that situation.October 5, 2008 at 5:17 pm #240463Dales-Electronic

According to my price list the suggested retail price from the largest distributor of parts in the country is £35.84p 😡
