The drum bearings have become increasingly noisy in my washing machine. I have got replacment bearings, and today spent a few hours stripping the machine down. However, I couldn’t get the old bearings out. They are housed in the back of the tub – no spider and hence nothing to attach a puller or any other kind of leverage to. I tried resting the entire tub face down on some wooden blocks and drifting the shaft (connected to the rear of the drum) out of the bearings but it didn’t budge. I was a little hesitant about using too much force for fear of damaging the plastic tub. Anyone out there any ideas as to how to proceed?
(I have got the machine back together now and working, but we have to vacate the kitchen when it reaches to the spin cycle!)Re: Removal of bearings from Hotpoint WMA66S – no spider!

If you are unable to drift out the drum shaft ( the spider is attached to this inside the drum) then you will need a new drum spider as well as the rear half. You have to split the drum into two halves before you attempt to drift out the old shaft. Then you will find that removing the bolts that hold the drum spider to the drum are seized in place, by this time you may be thinking ” why didn’t I get a professional in to do this job” 😉
