ParticipantBought my current house about 18 months ago. since we’ve been in nearly every bodge it under the sun has been found by the previous owner. When we moved in a couple of jobs he’d recently done (completely new totally tiled in bath leaked like a piggin seive) caused decorating to be necessary. Dishwasher he, fitted can’t be moved due to a solid wood floor right up to the front and no adjustment can be made to the legs 👿 . A floor which is now parting in the middle of the kitchen so needs to be taken up!.
They had the cheek to ring me for a repair of their own dishwasher the other day.
Do I.
A, Leave em in the hands of Hotpoint 😈
B, Charge em an extortionate fee and tell them its now obsolete 😈 😈
C, Fix it 🙁
D, Tell em to fluff off.I’d be interested to hear what other people would do in the circumstances. 😉

C Fix it 😉
Then once you’ve sorted it and got a substantial reward for your labours off him, point out a few errors you have found with your property. 😕
Perhaps he may point you towards other possible bodges you have yet to discover prior to them becoming a likely problem?
Like….”Oh by the way I jammed the ballcock with a lump of wood as the header tank kept overflowing, I always meant to change the ballcock but never got round to it!”….or…. The artex ceiling in the kids bedroom needs some attention as the roof tiles above it sprung a leak which I sealed with a dustbin liner, I always meant to sort those roof tiles out properly!
(Incidentally….those were my findings from the house I bought 20 years back from…of all people a local builder!!!! 🙁 👿 ]

Fix it and tell him how lucky he is as you would like to fix your own but you carnt get it out and if you could your not sure the plumbing could take it as it might sprout leaks like the bathroom pipes did when you so much as looked at them. Then tell him you think moses had a go at sorting it because the floor had parted like the sea but even he couldnt fix it.Let us know how it goes 😆

Take a kilo of fresh prawns with you in your toolbag. secretly hide it under the kitchen cabinets well out of sight ( if you can drop them under the floor boards then even better). Do the repair as normal, charge as normal + the prwns of course and go home happy in the thought that in a few weeks you will have revenge.

I bet he is blisfully unaware there were any legacies left behind. He probably thinks he done a good job in the old house, and could well be surprised if any problems came to light.

Unfortunately no!
When we went to view the house the bathroom had just been finished. There was no shower surround up, with the excuse ‘if its going to be a quick sale we wont bother with that’. The sale took six months because we were selling a semi commercial property and problems. When we got in there wasn’t even a shower curtain up and no marks on the wall where there had been one. First time we used the shower it rained downstairs 👿
Still not sorted that properly yet as the bath panel is mosaic tiled and the whole thing needs to come out to seal it properly. Handy stuff Ambersil sealant!!TC

Well Well.
Finally got around to changing the balls up of a bathroom he put in.
The dishwasher with the stop cock behind it has to come out (floor up) as said stop cock is p”””ing water out of it and it can’t be reached.
The newly tiled bathroom wall has to be opened up to replace the stripped thread shower connections. Plumber refitted the shower, turned the water on and ………no more ceiling in the hallway. Plumber should’ve checked the connections before, I know.
He’d used wall boards that the plumber had never seen in 25 years of the job (like breeze block held together with gauze 😕 )
Job should’ve finished today, this has all been found today on final connect and test. 🙁TC
