Hi everybody. I have got a 5 year old Magherita LBE 12X (Type Number LB2000C). Im pretty sure that the bearing is defective. On spin it would make lots of noise and I can move the inner drum without moving the outer drum. When spinning the inner drum manualy I can hear a grinding noise.

It used to work pretty well and everything besides the bearing is in working condition (and I live on the 4th floor – no elevator). This is why I intend to change the bearing. I have quite some mechanical skills but I havent changed bearings or fixed washing machines yet so Im asking you to help me.

Ive removed the backpanel (machine of course unpluged) and taken a picture:

I understand that the bearing (i guess 2) is somewhere in the center.
Can you tell me howto get to the bearing (what and in wich order I should disassemble). When changing bearings… do you also change the bearing shells? If needed I could take more pictures.

    Thank you for your time.

    Will from Germany

    P.S.
Ive noticed that you have a shop for spare parts. Do you also ship parts to foreign countries?

youll be lucky if that spider comes of the shaft

with the plug out, and good, protective gloves on, remove the pulley bolt, then the pulley
on each of the 4 arms, theres 2 tx40 bolts which need to be removed.. the spider SHOuld come off the shaft

expect it to be tight, and expect problems, its a tough job

im not sure if anyone supplies just the bearings, i only fit them complete with the spider

Re: Ariston Margherita – defective bearing

    Thanks for your quick reply!

I have already noticed that edges inside are pretty sharp but thank you for reminding me 🙂

I was kind of mixed up because its my first washing machine repair.
After reading your post I have taken another look at the machine.

I now undestand that the “pulley” (rusty wheel in my pucture?) is connected to the inner drum while the “4 arm thing” (is that what you called spider?) is mounted on the outer drum.

I should disassemble both, right? Ill try and see if I can find bearings and/or shells somewhere.

May I ask you how much you pay for a complete spider? I assume it comes with bearings and gasket but would it also come with a new pulley (so it would be ready to install)?

By the way… Ive noticed that the the pulley has got no edging (unlike the electric motor that has) that keeps the ribbed drive belt in place… I wonder how the belt has managed not to come off the pulley over the last 5 years. Can you tell me how that works?

The belt (under tension) is surprisingly rigid in a linear direction. That’s why it stays on the pulley.

Looking at the back of your drum, I suspect that you will be wasting your time trying to repair it. The pulley is normally aluminium coloured – you have had a large leak through the bearings for a long time – the shaft will almost certainly be damaged; replacement involves fitting an entire tank assembly. Not a cost effective repair.

Re: Ariston Margherita – defective bearing

It looks as if the bearings are available the shaft will be either 22mm or 26mm, we will need to know the size but a rough guide to SRP is £36.

If you replace the shaft as suggested by helo_75 depending on shaft size the SRP will be in the region of £70. The pulley does not come with the shaft, this will have to be removed anyway to carry out the repair.

As Penguin45 has already pointed out, your machine has been leaking for a long time so the shaft is ‘very’ likely damaged, don’t even attempt to change the bearings if it is, they will not last.

Again to reiterate what Penguin45 has said, to replace the shaft you will have to replace the the complete tank assembly with a SRP £176.

As you can see this is not going to be a cheap or easy repair, if it was mine I would be looking at getting a replacement.
