    Hi, firstly, thanks for a very informative and useful site.

    Secondly, my cooker stopped working 2 days before Xmas (Of course!)and, as the selector switch had been clunking round for some time i assumed it had failed. There was still power to the cooker, the gas hob and clock were still working but that was it.

    I ordered a new switch which i only fitted yesterday due to various circumstances, but it didn’t make any difference.

    Then, this morning, i was reading a post on here from someone else whose cooker had failed in a similar sounding manner and they mentioned that the element was perished.

    I checked mine and the bar that supports the lower element had come away from the slot it sits in on one side, dropping the element by about 5-10mm.
    I replaced it and, hey presto, the oven started working again!

    Hopefully someone else in the same situation may find the above useful.

    Sorry to ask something so obvious, but where did you look to repair it?
