ParticipantHi Guys
I would really really appreciate your assistance with the following problem on my SMEG oven. The oven stopped working tonight, the clock does not illuminate and when the oven is switched off (electrical supply is still on but all controls are switched off) if you turn the thermostat control the orange light telling you the oven is not up to temp comes on. This seemed strange, although my suspicion was the clock as this has failed previously as have several other components! I am fed up paying local SMEG agent loads of cash for repairs so decided to have a look myself. When I took the front control panel off it was immediatley obvious that one of the 2 cables going into the back of the Thermostat control leaver had burnt out (it had melted the cable shrouding and was burnt black) I stripped the thermostat and the inside is black. I am getting the instrument guys at my work tmrw to check it but I am confident it is knacked! The question is, why would the clock not work? Is there an internal fuse that could have blown? Where can I purchase a new Thermostat switch? If anyone can help in any way I would be very grateful. I am at the point of throwing this oven in the bin and buying another oven but dont really have that amount of spare cash lying around! One thing for sure if I buy a new one it will NOT be a SMEG Thanks in advance.

KeymasterHi Ricky,
The clocks are usually enclosed and it may be that when the wiring has shorted it’s zapped the clock, which isn’t great news as clocks ain’t cheap. 😕

Thanks for the quick reply.
The guys at work have checked the thermostat switch and are saying that although it is blackend from something, it is still working! Where is the best plce to go form here? I was going to remake the wiring connection but dont think this will make any difference! I see I can purchase a new clock for around £90 form the SMEG service place, is it worth the risk with out the oven being checked out? Do you know of any good repair guys in the Central Scotland area who dont work for the SMEG agent as I have had serious issue with the owner on the past 4 occasions they have been out! Thanks again in advance for your help
