ParticipantMy bottom electric oven is not working. I thought I saw some flames at the bottom – but assumed for some reason an old baking dish with built up carbon had caught fire. Well that’s what I thought at the time! I can turn the oven on, the fan comes on (ever since I had it the fan made an awful clanking sound at first and then settled down). Anyway, fan on but no heat. Is this an electrical problem, thermostat or something gone? I don’t have a thermometer, but I’ve always thought that the oven doesn’t get as hot as I’d like. And where would the element or whatever is wrong be situated – at the back presumably? Any advice would be appreciated.

Fan oven element is situated behind the rear panel in the oven chamber. Usually 4 screws in order to remove. If you had sparks and flames, it will be pretty obvious whether or not it has failed; but a read of this will explain things:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ge&pid=103Replacement element will be available from spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk but check the serial number of the appliance – there are two different versions.
Power off before going in.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I know you say it’s important to find the serial number – but I can’t find it on the front of the cooker, or oven doors etc. Will it be at the back.
Perhaps if it is, it will give me the opportunity to clean behind before an engineer calls – that will take me a month!!
I can’t afford to have it fixed until next month and was worried that when I call someone out, even though I give him the serial number, the problem, possibly fan, thermostat or whatever, will he have it in the van or will he say I’ve got to order it and then pay more money for him to return? There is absolutely no point in me buying a new, thermostat or whatever in advance is there, in case it’s none of these? Dohhhhhhh
