When you first posted you said you were having problems with the top oven, then mentioned the grill.
The reply you got suggested a top oven stat.If I read your post correctly you mean that the high speed solar grill is not working correctly.
I suppose it could be a faulty grill regulator but the only time I have seen anything like this I had to change the grill element assembly. Two different assemblies fitted, one very expensive, £90.00 ex vat, list price. The other around £33.00 ex vat. Fitting a new regulator first might be an option worth trying.
Before date code 08 its the £90 + one.
If you do order one, check the box when it arrives, its a very delicate item, the last one I had, one of the glass tubes was shattered but I managed to salvage one of the old unit and thread the element though it.

Elements are C00233902 for the pre date code expensive one and C00192999 for the post date code 07 one. A slightly different size so not interchangeable.

One thing I would like to add.Above the element is a plate fixed to the top of the oven cavity, sometimes the screws drop out and the plate becomes distorted,it warps enough to make contact with the grill element and when you turn it on you get a very bright element then a bang.
Worth checking before you put the new element in.As Jim says at 90 quid a throw it aint cheep. -
