ParticipantDuring the last couple of weeks the machine has been cleaning variably – some items come out clean, others do not. Initially cleaned filters but made no difference. Have also noticed that mid cycle the inlet valve seems to cycle on-off-on-off-on-off quite a few times in short succession – I’ve always been aware of the valve noise, but not the rapid on-off cycling.
Investigated further last night, opening the door mid cycle a few times showed that the top spray arm didn’t appear to be moving, but water was coming out of the spray holes.
Removed both arms and checked for blockages. Top arm is showing signs of wear to the plastic where it sits on spindle, and feels slightly stiff to turn and has quite a lot of ‘play’. I am guessing this is just the simple matter of a new upper spray arm, is this normal, and are there any other things I should check? Is the valve noise an indication of an additional problem?
Machine was installed in 2001 and is in pretty much daily use.
Ta for the help.

You need to clean out the hose under the tub in the bottom left hand corner – it will be full of goo, causing the machine to underfill.
Power off before going in……….

Can you give a quick run down of how to get in there…? Ta!

Plug out. Remove door outer panel, plastic kick board, then lower cover plate. You will need Torx bits to do this. Corrugated hose in the left hans corner and simply pulls off. Clean thoroughly.

OK, done that, hose was very gunged up as you predicted so thanks for the advice. However…. Neither top or bottom spray arm now spins, as far as I can tell. On opening the door there is a good 3-4″ of upward spray off the lower spray arm, but no rotation. Arm is clean and spins easily enough by hand (upper one is still stiff so will order a new one of those I think). I think the lower arm was spinning before the de-gunge – so what have I done now?! Next things to check?
Ta!

Presumably still underfilling – I can only suggest that the chamber on the left hand side where the hose couples on is pretty gooey as well.
