ParticipantHi all,
I have a Fisher & Paykel E521T fridge 4 1/2yrs old. The alarm keeps going off at all hours of the day. I can stop this by pressing a temp control button but it keeps happening.
The alarm sounds at 1 sec intervals and green lights flash on the active smart temp control panel. Temp in fridge/freezer seem ok and no ice/water build up noticed anywhere unusual. Both compartments are stocked lightly so are not overfilled. Seals on doors are all intact and work ok.
I want to try and avoid the AUST $150 F&P call out fee, can anyone shed any light on what is happening and what I can try to do to resolve this prob B4 I call out the technician at huge expense.

The flashing lights are the key. Make a note of what it flashing. The right hand column of lights are numbered 0-5 from the bottom, the two left hand ones are 7 (bottom) and 6 (top). Adding up the value should give a fault code number and we should be able to advise you.

Hi,
Thanks Penguin for your prompt reply.
With the latest alarm I saw that the light flashing is ONLY the fridge door light. ie left bottom. It flashes at about 7-8 flashes per 10 beeps (approx 10sec) its green only.
From memory this is always the one, though possably once it was the freezer (top) light…I just can’t be sure. I don’t recal EVER seeing the right hand lights flash. So lets go with what we are sure about!! lol
Thanks for helping,
Rebecca

Oh heck. There are two different sets of electronics fitted to these, with two different sets of codes. The early one is a general code pointing to fan and/or defrost heater problems. The later version points at fan wiring problems or PCB problems.
I think you’re going to have to get so-one who knows what they’re doing………..

Bugger!!!
Well to begin with I am going to empty it and turn it off for a day or two and restart it to see if that works. (cheapest option at this stage)
If not… well I guess its going to cost me…
Anyone know of a cheap fridge repairer in Perth Western Australia????
Thanks,
Rebecca

Check the defrost element /heater located in freezer behind back plate
Another to check would be fan Motor in freezer located in same area broken wiring to fan motor is a common problem .
If Your not sure what you are doing I would suggest a Pro

Bite the bullet and get an authorised repair company. Both freezer and refrigerator fan have been upgraded. Suggest you replace both at the same time. Will cost less in the long run.

Hi all thanks for your replies,
OK defrosting for 24hrs in 37C heat…ie everything shoulda defrosted and evaporated/dried out. DIDN”T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok I know I was expecting too much from that idea.
Turned it back on and both freezer and fridge compartments cooled well and quickly. Fans working fine from sounds of it. Just this bloody alarm started again. Also flashing light started as soon as I switched it back on, few hours later beeping resumed.
Chucked it all into sabath mode to get peace and quiet and sleep for now – ya gotta LOVE that invention at times like these.
Guess its time to call in the repairman.

OK just to keep you all updated.
I finally get the F&P repair man out.
$180 and 5mins later my fridge is fixed.
It turns out there was a faulty wire (surprise…NOT) on the fan.
So I have a new fan and all is well. So far…only been 24hrs…
If I had known this and how easy it was (I watched) I coulda done it myself!!
Anyway thats it.
Thanks for all the advice/help
