Hi I have a Electrolux WH2125 which although a few years old has not had a hard life and is in good order. The machine has started to get noisy when spinning.
I suspect the bearings may be on the way out. There doesnt seem to be any discernible play at the front of the drum and the drum does not seem rough when spun by hand. When the drum is pushed and pulled along the bearing axis there is between 1/16″ and 3/32″ of free play. Is this normal ?
I have removed the rear panel and cannot see any marks or staining that would indicate failure of the seal. The belt has been removed and the motor bearings seem OK when spun by hand.

The 64 million dollar question is do you think its worth fitting new bearings or buy a new machine.

    Thanks in advance Kevin

Bearing repair is quite feasible as long as it is done early enough to prevent any undue damage to the drum shaft.

    Hi Omage,

    Welome to UK Whitegoods.

Play along the bearing access is normal.

Is the machine noisy when you put it into a spin without any load in the drum?

Check to see if the drum has any play in the verticle access 3 times, turning the drum so that the paddle/lifter is at the bottom each time Push the drum back and forth at the bottom.

    (*Unplug the machine*)

With the belt removed, is the drum noisy when spun by hand?

Thanks for the very prompt replies.
The machine is certainly quieter when spinning without a load.
By pushing up and down on the drum at the three paddle positions at the front I can detect a very small movement in the vertical plane.
I would say the drum has a very small amount of noise when spun by hand without the belt on (I presume there should be no noise at all)

All the tests you have done and things you have looked at indicate it may not necessarily be a bearing.

‘Usually’, when you spin the drum by hand you would hear if the bearings are going.

Can you describe the noise you are getting?
