I have two 4501/5 dishwashers which have repeatedly given code 4 over the last 18 months I have had them but I have been able to clear these by resetting after cleaning out the sump and making sure the water sensor was not gunged up. One has now decided, despite being a clean as whistle, to give either 4 or 11 as an error code ( 11 seems odd as it doesnt have an optical sensor ) and I wonder what can I do now – has the sensor failed as there is nothing obvious to clean and the membrane is pristine?? there is no obstruction and it occasionally will do several complete cycles before deciding to give the same fault codes again. I am quite capable of stripping anything down if someone can suggest what to try – I have looked at all the similar links on the forum and other than cleaning out the sensor have found nothing else obvious to try.

    Hi
Need full model off appliance or 12 digits below barcode on appliance 😀 .

Thanks for the reply Greg 😀

    Model is 8511 501 15820
    12 digit code is 380 548 006214

Basically it is now pretty well stuck flashing 11 – if I throw a bucked of water down its throat and reset, it pumps out then doesn’t fill and flashes the code 11 again virtually every time ( ie I assume it still thinks it has not emptied ) .
To be honest the two identical dishwashers, which I find are just 2 years old actually, have never had anything convincingly causing them to flash 4 in the past and I just wonder is there really a faulty part on them both ❓

    regards

It’s definitely to do with water level control. Have you actually pulled the diaphragm switch from the sump and checked it for function and cleanliness? It’s a twist fit from underneath. Possibly oxidised contacts where wiring joins the computer board, possibly computer itself. This is usually a mechanical problem.

Power off before removing switch unit.

Not pulled sensor out yet – was wondering why Greg wanted more details re model numbers etc though?
Will pull it apart more this weekend and check switch function off the machine ( and having 2 machines can always swap circuit boards ) what is odd is the fact that both have been so flakey since new so I did wonder about a batch of poor sensors and maybe just change it anyway as it seems cheap and readily available.

    Thanks

Wanted to be sure of correct code advice but that 12 digits you gave are not coming up to any appliance 😕

damn 🙁 I will look again with specs on or try the 12 off the other machine bought at the same time and same model if that’s OK with you greg? will post it later as not in the same building as the machines at the moment

Again thanks for your time and help

Ere Pengy oh flightless one 😆
I like your 12 digits 😯 and F4 is a drain or water level fault as you said. Not sure what F11 is is or does it equate to FE an Eprom error 😕

10 not used, 11 is FA.

Re: Whirlpool 4501/5 nothing seems to clear code 4 or 11

I assume the last few posts mean that the 12 digit code was right and identified it as the right model -11 flashes mean FA I assume mean it shouldn’t happen but I noticed the same on another similar topic on the same machine when Optical Sensor was mentioned as bringing up this code which the machine doesnt have so it is daft anyway.

I have pulled out the sensor and can convince myself that it is a bit notchy but seems to work off the machine otherwise – all the contacts are like new on the switch and the board so I am just going to replace the sensor and hope.
If this dont work I will swap the circuit boards between machines as a last resort.

    Thanks again

Well new water level switch is in, despite the old one seeming to function OK off the machine, so far has been fine for 2 days so hopefully thats it cured

    Thanks for the help
