If you reset the programme, does it drain? Whirring noises with no circulation is often the impellor shearing off the main pump – this will not give an error code (flashing lights). No drain in the time allowed should give some flashing lights.

When the machine first fills, does it whir and/or humm.. and is there water in the bottom of the machine just under the spray arm. Also when you reset the program does it drain the water from the machine. If yes to all this, I am sorry to inform you it is the wash motor. The impeller has come adrift from the shaft. The motor needs to be replaced, some may say different, but to have the job done properly it is the whole motor. Do not try to do this yourself, you need a SMEG man to do this for you, or at least someone who has experience on SMEG dishwashers.
