ParticipantOur built-in single oven broke down so we bought a replacement on the internet. We were after an oven with a 13 amp power supply that did not need hard-wiring, firstly to save the expense of getting it hard wired (the previous oven plugged into the mains) and secondly because we intend to get a new kitchen in 6 months time so it would have to come out then anyway.
We bought the AEG B21004 as the website information fitted our requirements; however when we got it home it turns out that it does need hard-wiring, and is 15-20 amps. The vendors have admitted that the info on their website is wrong and say we can either return it or they will pay £30 towards the installation.
I’d be interested to know how easy one of these is to install and is there any way around having to get it hard wired – most ovens that need hard wiring seem to be 30 amps. Are we likely to end up paying way over the £30 offered? The salesman also said that all ovens need hard-wiring nowadays – is this the case?
Cheers for your help!

Participantnope
most single ovens work well on a 13amp heated cable
all depends on the rating im afraid
unfortunately, we cant go greatly into details of the installation in your home, as we cant be sure what exactly we’re dealing with
if you have a cooker switch nearby, it aint so bad, if you havent, it becomes expensive, and has to be done by a qualified electrician, as you need to have a suitable fuse installed to your fuse box, wired throught to a cooker isolator unit, then wired to the cooker
not a cheap option, believe me, but needs to be done correctly for safety, and insurance purposes
more information would help.. i.e, do you have a consumer unit in the kitchen ( a cooker box, with a big red switch that says cooker on it)?

Thanks for the advice – no, there is no consumer unit in our kitchen. The wiring would have to come up from the cellar so it’s looking like it would be an expensive job.

I’ve noticed the website we bought the oven from also has the Zanussi ZBQ465X for a similar price – it says this one also doesn’t need hard-wiring – can anyone confirm this?
