ParticipantHelp! There was an earlier posting on an ignition problem with this model, but I can’t find it now.
The ignition has gone on the cooker entirely – no oven ignition and no top burners. The cooker is silent whenever any knob is pressed in.
I don’t propose to do any DIY, but can anyone give me an idea of whether this problem is worth fixing or whether it’s time to go shopping again?
(Just my luck that everything is failing just now; fridge freezer in December, TV last week …)
Cheers,

Participantunusual for nothing to work, has to be said
are u sure its not just unplugged/switched off/fuse gone?
worth checking before u’ll need a spark generator, not an overly expensive repair, but youll need a corgi registered fitter to fix it for you
hope this helps

Yes, pretty sure that there is still a supply of electricity as the clock is still working, so it’s not the fuse or the mains switch and it is plugged in.
I was assuming that an appropriate repair person would get the replacement part, but your post could be interpreted in terms of me getting it and then finding someone to fix it. Can you confirm which is correct?
I’m also just wondering whether the total cost of replacement of the defective part (part + labour) isn’t far off getting a new cooker, in which case the warranty offsets the additional cost. I don’t know what the cost of repairs is these days – most of the stuff is pretty reliable so haven’t needed repairs in recent memory – but labour and call out fees are reasonably sizeable I think.
I appreciate costs may vary from region to region, but some indication of cost would be really appreciated.

Participantsorry, yes, the engineer will supply and fit the part
hard to quote a price, im pretty sure the generator would probably be around the £20 mark
i work for comet, as most people know, and comets labour charge is £75, so it would certainly be less than £100
im sure a sole trader would be less, if you click the link below (find an engineer), ukwhitegoods will help find you an engineer
personally? i hate those cookers, dont cook well at all (burn all the food at the bottom, and leave it uncooked at the top) hard to clean, and difficult to work on….. but, alas, nice to look at!!!
your call……..

Thanks for your help and advice. I’ll ask around locally.
Yes, I chose it because it looked easy to clean and generally it has been, but it isn’t terribly well insulated and tends to have a poorly calibrated thermostat, but you don’t know some of these things until you use it for a while.
