ParticipantWe have had our machine for about 6 months and the fabric conditioner does not seem to work. We have tried all sorts of cycles and are putting the conditioner in the middle secton of the draw. It takes the conditioner but the towels etc still come out feeling like cardboard. Thought we may be spinning too fast so now use 800 spin speed but still get cardboard towels. Does anyone else have this problem? ❓

Hi
Seeing as its only 6 months old, did you change from an older type of machine?
These used lots more water and detergent.
The new machines nowadays use reduced water (some barely visible until rinses) hence the need for less detergent.
You will be best adhering to dosage according to hardness of water, garment tag/s ie temp and wash cycle and clothing weight for optimum results.
If you overdose you will most probably get white tide marks on your clothes and stiffness of fabric.
Incidentally, I take it the machine fill hose is fitted to the cold and not the hot? Best way to check is to put it on a rinse and see if hot water enters the dispenser; if so you will need to swap it over to the cold tap.
Have a look here for additional information 😀

Thanks Greg. Yes, we did have quite an old model previously. Our problem is not so much that there is residue left but that the fabric conditioner does not seem to have any effect at all – it almost seems as if it is completely rinsed out.

What I was trying to say before is basically if you use the same amount of detergent as you were in your last machine, then it will be too much for the new machine and most probably the rinses will be inaffective in removing all of the powder thus making the clothes stiff regardless of softner used 😉

I see. Understand what you mean. We are using concentrated liquid and we do put considerably less in …..but maybe we should measure it and check. In answer to one of your previous questions, it is cold fill only.
Thanks for your help. We will experiment with less detergent.
