ParticipantHi all, new to the forum here. I am trying to decide between two Miele washing machines and not clear on what exactly the differences are between two particular machines.
At the moment, I am about the buy a model called 1734, which has their new “modern” exterior styling and all the key features I wanted:
– honeycomb drum
– durability and long life span
– 1400 spin cycle
– delay timer
– full set of washing programs and temperature optionsBut there is also a 4xxx series with similar styling. Now, a s far as I can tell the only differences are:
– the control panel is tilted back a bit more
– the 4xxx series comes with a “brushless” motor
– some of them go up to 1600rpm in rinse cycle. However the salesman in the shop said the non-brushless moter is rated for 20 years use, same as the new one. And 1600rpm isnt something I really see the need for.
If this is the case, I am happy to stick with the 1734. I dont mind paying for quality, but none of these things seem to matter to me, so I would just as well keep the money instead.
But are there any other differences I dont know about? I am hoping this purchase lasts a long time, so just want to make sure there is no real reason to go for the “higher” model.
Thanks for any answers.

1734 isn’t on the Miele site anymore, so presumably on run out. If I’m honest about it, they are beautifully made appliances, with a long expected life. However………. if (and when, ‘cos it will – eventually) it goes wrong, can you afford to have it repaired? Spares prices can most fairly be described as larcenous and are unlikely to encourage an owner to keep the appliance running for the twenty year life cycle you’re being sold. You are also tied to Miele for the life of the product as any indicated fault code shown by the machine can only be rectified by a Miele engineer plugging his laptop into your machine to re-set the fault. A blatant restraint of trade and you will pay for the priveledge.
Brushless motors are a little bit of an unknown at the moment – two types – the three phase motor, or the high speed induction motor. It’s still fairly new technology, so detailed long term reliability is a bit of an unknown. Knowing Miele they will have come up with something pretty reliable – if it goes wrong, God only knows how many arms and legs they might need to repair it.
I don’t intend to sound negative, but Miele are not popular with the independents. Restrictive practices stop us independents doing our job; the company’s attitude seems to work along the lines of Mercedes Benz ownership – you can afford to buy it, so you should be able to afford the servicing costs.
Personally, I don’t agree.

Have a look at ISE 10 , got all the quality and reliability of the Miele , but with a full 10 year guarantee . as an added bonus it does most of the cycles in half the time .
And if that weren’t enough, spares are realistically priced and the labour charges should be as well , 10 years down the road when it’s out of warranty ! It works out at £1.60 a week if it only lasts the 10 years , but these machines are designed to last about 20 .

Penguin45.From the model number I would guess that Osamede is on mainland Europe as the model quoted is available in Germany and Spain among others. The nearest UK version would be the W1714. Or I could be totally wrong 😆

You are correct, thanks. I am in Norway. The 1734 is similar to to the 1714, which we also have available here. i think the only difference is that the 1734 has the delayed start timer.Any more answers to the question will be very helpful. Plugs for ISE machines are not – wasnt the question I asked and I cant buy them here anyway.

To be fair to the people who mentioned the ISE machine, they would have had no idea that you were in Norway, you neglected to mention it in your first post. 😉However the comments on the excessive cost of Miele spares are entirely valid. The ASKO machine mentioned is made in Sweden and is every bit as good as a Miele without the ridiculous price of parts.

Have you asked – or checked – on whether Asko washing machines are availale here in Norway. Or if any which ones? Or their pricing? Or the relative costs of parts and labor for the various machines
We all have opinions, but its best to just stick to the question people ask, in this case a simple comparison of two model series, instead of inserting other agendae – sometimes they are actually not helpful. Maybe the person who made a simple question was keeping it simple for a reason.

To answer the question exactly, we have no information on European versions of models sold in the UK, so we are unable to advise you.
