ParticipantMy Neff S5456 dishwasher has very recently stopped drying, and the length of the cycle has more than doubled. At the end of the cycle there is condensation on all surfaces. I have not yet been able to catch it at the end of a cycle so I dunno if it is hot at that point. I have opened it during the cycle and it is heating the water OK so the water heater seems OK. Is there a different heating element for drying? Or can anyone suggest where the fault might be?

To add some more symptoms to my above post:
I opened the dishwasher at the time I would expect it to complete the cycle, and it had no water in, but the pump was running. It has washed the dishes, which are warm, so it seems to have at least started the cycle correctly.
The timer shows 1 minute and remains on 1 minute. However if I leave it it will finish eventually.
It seems like it thinks it has water in when it hasn’t?

If you are certain that there is heat, the culprit is almost certainly the transfer hose underneath the machine in the front left hand corner being full of goo, causing underfilling.
Power off if you’re going to repair this yourself.

Also crudding up of the ventilation valve (top l/h corner of water matrix)
and/or metring unit adjacent to that will give you same symptoms 😉Greg

Hose at the front was a bit gunky but not blocked.
In the top LH corner of the water matrix there is a large gunked up area – it is away from the air vent, appears to be at the top of the loop of water channel which comes up, round and goes back down again.
I can’t imagine how I would get at this to clean it, is it possible?
Also the part described as “Pressure Chamber” at the bottom of the water matrix has a considerable amount of gunk in it, looks like the only way to get at this is to remove the water matrix (which is full of water), is that the case?
I have put a photo of the gunked bit at:

Thanks for help so far!March 18, 2008 at 10:15 pm #246327Penguin45

You certainly need to flush out the pressure chamber, its operation is critical to the water level. It will completely disassemble with a bit of time and patience.
The air vent in the top left hand corner is almost impossible to clean – back filling with hot water, shaking and tapping may dislodge some of the goo.
And in future, get the heavy stuff off the plates before they go in the machine………..

Success! I managed to get the pressure chamber apart and remove the considerable amount of yack inside it. Cycle time and drying has now returned to normal.
The gunk in the water matrix is still there, but I can’t see a way of getting it out, or how that bit works.
Thanks for the advice.

Gegsy will probably have a cunning plan……..
Well done anyway – bear in mind the comment about pre-cleaning.

Sounds very similar to the problem I’m having with a candy c4400. Seems nice and hot when washing and rinsing but everything seems very wet at end of drying cycle! I wonder if the experts could tell me if the pressure chamber in the same place as on your machine? many thanks. 😀
