My Moms washing machine (7 years old ) has started to vibrate when on
fast spin this vibration causes the powder tray to open and depending on the cycle loose water through this.I have stripped the machine down and replaced the bottom dampers assuming that this would be the problem however it is exactly the same.
Looking at it the drum assemble is hung on 3 springs, 2 at one side and 1 on the other these appear ok, although perhaps they have stretched ?
I have to say the drum does appear to swing around quite loosely in the carcase.
The machine is perfectly level and sat in the same place on a level concrete floor for last 7 years.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

A gem of a machine this one.
Built like a tank, anyway down to problem 😉
It may be worth checking the motor brushes for wear as worn brushes can upset the distribution cycle before the spin resulting in incorrect balancing of clothes.
Earth leakage,tacho on motor faulty or module can all be suspects.

I think I understand what you are saying if the bushes were worn which is possible on a seven year machine as it has not had any previous work.
Do the brushes have a min lenght ? I assume as they wear the pressure on the brush spring decreases I have changed some on hotpoints before and always thought the spring loaded brush carrier on those was a bit daft some times jaming a different league of machine.

Hi
New brushes app 1.5″ in length.
IIRC on this machine they are hidden away as it were inside the motor end cap.
Pop your full model number up off the appliance WFK2801**/** so I can be sure 😀Greg

Thanks for coming back to me,
Took the motor off this morning to have a look at the brushes a bit easier on the work bench. I was surprised to see such a lot of brush left after 7 years they both potruded from the brush carrier by at least 1/2 an inch long which I would think should be adequate ?
I cleaned the com up and reseated the brushes.
I also looked at tacho ?on the end of the motor (these bosch are clever stuff) removed the end cap and carefully wiped it after replacing it I checked the output by rotating the motor whilst connecting a DVM on AC Volts not acurate but it did fluctuate so indicated some kind of output.
Still at a bit of a loss with this vibration which whilst not being huge it is surficient to shake the powder draw open.
I wonder of it could be the drum bearings grasping the iner and outer drum there does appear to be a very slight ammount of play although this does seem difficult to check.
Should there be no play and not end float ? and whats it like to change the bearings on a drum ?
