    Hi all,

My Bosch dishwasher (SGS5358GB/17) has recently tripped the main house fuse. When I re-set the fuse, the dishwasher continued until it got to 01 then sat there for ages.

I needed to do a reset to get it to do the final drain. The dishes came out cold.

When I tried to do the next wash, the dishwasher did its normal filling cycle, but the display said 2H. Again dishes came old cold and it stalled at 01.

I have taken the top and sides off to take a look inside and cannot see any blocked tubes.

The water reservoir on the left side of the machine seems to have a small blockage right at the top of cylinders 1 and 2 where any overflow waste water would finally make its way to the top right opening. It doesn’t stop the water from being pumped out though.

There is a large cylindrical tank at the base of the machine on the back left corner (just inside from where the black water inlet tube changes to the blue tube) the contents of which looks very brown. I’m not sure if that is part of the salt water softener?

Also, I’m not sure where to find the heater element to check its resistance. Is it at the base of the back right corner (an oval shaped white plastic part with what looks like a black switch in the middle – between the pump and the power inlet)?

Why do dishwashers always break down when you need them most?

I appreciate that live testing is not something that you would recommend and am therefore keeping it unplugged when the sides are off.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ed

With the power off, remove the lid and the r/h panel.
If you look in the exposed side at the bottom, you will see the heater at the rhs.
Resistence should be approx 20-30 ohms.

    Greg,

Thanks, that is what I call a swift reply! Should I check across the two outer terminals with all electrical spades removed?

If I get no reading at all, is it worth also doing a continuity test between the terminals?

I managed to track down a photo of the heater housing from the spares site on this forum so at least I know what I’m looking for now.

    Thanks,

    Hi
Remove amp tags on the two protruding element ends either side of the safety microswitch.

    Greg,

Thanks, I have tried that but get no reading whatsoever! Even doing a continuity test – nothing!

I guess that can mean only one thing – the element has gone.

I guess its time for a new dishwasher.
