I am renting a flat with a whirlpool DWF 417 dishwasher from IKEA, but do not have any manuals describing the functions or settings. The manual that can be downloaded from Whirlpool’s website describes cleaning and maintenance, but does not have any key to the icons, functions, or settings. I understand that the Eco setting is probably something that saves water and/or electricity, but I have no idea why the symbols that look like a large pot or a stack of dishes always flash after the wash is done. Are these the finishing settings? Is the dishwasher supposed to be run twice? Given the dishes are always covered in a white film that washes off in water and seems to be really salty, it seems possible that some critical rinse cycle is not happening. I have added dishwasher salt but that does not seem to help the white film issue, and since the white film is salty, is there a possibility the salt is leaking out and sticking to the dishes because the rinse cycle is wrong? Again, understanding what the buttons mean would probably help. Thank you very much for your advice.

Have sent you copy of the comparable SMEG model. Hope it clarifies things for you.
