This oven is only about 3 years old and has been failing from about month 14. I have now decided to try and get it back to an acceptable working condition.

    Basicaly there were/are 3 problems.
    1. Small grill not coming on, small oven works. I tracked this down to the top inner ( grill element) being open circuit. New one required.
    2. Main oven not getting above 150c on Fan assisted. Tracked down to 2, Thermal fuses blown AND Bottom Main Element is Open Circuit.
    3. Cooling fan (after oven is switched off) runs constantly, even if oven is stone cold-

    So I need :-
    1. a top small oven element,
    2. a large bottom element,
    3. 2 thermal fuses ( I fitted 2 190c one to test it, but it needs 210c ones.)
    4. Whatever is required to fix the constant cooling fan?! I have seen a cooling fan control thermostat for other ovens but I do not know if/where this goes in ths piece of junk I have.

Can anyone advise, apart from buying a quality oven next time..Thanks. 😥 👿

    Hi,

Check the main selector switch is okay, especially on the last problem as these were notorious for failing. IIRC there was some sort of modification to them as well and you had to replace a whole bunch or wiring as well. 😕

All the parts are pretty easily available although I don’t know how the prices are these days for Kenwood Elba since they were bought by Fisher & Pakel, an email to Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you some answers though.

Thanks for the information, I’ll get a quote.

Considering the cost of parts etc, I’m considering just replacing it with a used one from Ebay.

    Hi Martin,

Just a word of advice, stats show how over 85{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of appliances are changed because they have a fault. Most second hand machines will fall into that 85{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} I would think. 😉

Thanks for the info, though I am now a bit confused. The two thermal switches that have blown are marked up as 210c not 160c. From the rear I can see 4 of these fuses, 2 are OK, 2 I have replaced with 190c ones to test. I do not have the oven apart at the moment, but at the time, I am sure the thermal fuses all had the same markings. Maybe the 210C I saw was a red herring, I will have to check.

I do not know which fan is running constantly ( didn’t know there were 2!), I will have to investigate further at the weekend.

If you can give me a link to a cct diagram, that would be fantastic. I am an electronics engineer, so I should be able to find my way round. At the moment I have just been figuring it out as I go.

    Cheers…Martin

After getting the money together to replace the parts, the cooling fan now sounds like an angle grinder and I have decided call it a day and buy a QUALITY direct replacement oven. This means it has to be a double oven, gas hob and 90cm and not a junk rebadged Italian Delonghi/Kenwood or whatever. I have a number of German appliances that seem to last and last, so can anyone recommend a good replacement preferably with a long (5 year?) warranty. Thanks.
