There’s a rattle from my washer/dryer which I am sure is caused by some coins which have got into inside the inner drum. Do I need to call an engineer or is this a repair I can do myself?

open the dor, pull the green paddle towards you and it should come out

you can then look in the tub, see if you can see them.

otherwise, it may need to have the heater taken out or the tub split….

depends how competent you are, but either way, they have to come out, cos it WILL split the tub

You may if you are lucky be able to remove a lifter (wash paddle) and remove the offending coins. The other way is to remove the heater but I would not recommend it if you have any doubts in your own ability. Of course never work on a machine whilst it is plugged in.

Whoops must have been typing whilst you were posting Helo

unfortunately the paddles won’t budge. I can’t hear the coins rattling any more – but I’m sure they still need to come out. Could they have dropped somewhere else?

My previous machine (Zanussi) had a fillter where objects like this would get trapped – anything like this on teh Hotpoint?

    Thanks for your help.

You may need to use a scredriver to release the tab you push it through the hole in the top of the paddle. Hotpoint machines do not ghave a filter as they have self cleaning pumps.

Yes, there is a sort of filter cage in the hose from the bottom of the drum to the pump. If coins get into there they may prevent movement of the anti-backfill valve. This is a plastic ball similar to a table tennis ball. If you remove the lower back panel you can remove this hose which is held on with a Jubilee clip. Remove the ball and filter cage and clean out.

thanks phidom – successfully got coins out of the filter cage. Unfritunately rattle has returned – sounds like there are still coins trapped behind the drum.

I’ve removed the paddles but cannot see the offending coins – what next?

If you slowly rotate the drum with a paddle removed and you can’t see coins lodged anywhere they could be caught down the front of the drum. You may be able to get access by removing the cabinet front and loosening the top hose from the soap dispenser to the tub. Again you would slowly rotate the drum and see if they appear through the hose orifice.
