ParticipantWhen customers ask you to recommend a new tumble drier, which do you suggest these days? I tend to say Zanussi but my knowledge is always out of date as I don’t tend to see machines until they are a few years old.

Depends if you want alot of repairs in the future ❓
If so recommend anything under hotpoint brand. 😈
If not Zanussi is usually a safe bet. 😀

Whirlpool don’t make a bad dryer either,it’s just the price of the spares that scares me to death!!!

Always White Knight for me…Philips got it pretty right years ago and things haven’t been messed around for a few pence savings..Cheap to buy and parts are reasonable.

But if you actually want it to last .. i would agree, white k good budget one, plastic fans can go but easy fix. 6kg zan is whats in my kitchen running at this very moment. Apart from front stat failure , cheap 5 min job they seem well enough put together 😯

Thanks for the replies. OK you MIGHT generate more work for yourself by telling customers to buy something you know will give trouble. More likely you will simply lose that customer. I suppose the main thing that has put me off White Knight was those big round elements, I find them a real pain to change. Perhaps they no longer make any models with those though?

Lets get this straight. I have never sold an appliance with the thought of extra work because it will break down. I have more integrity than that. I sell appliances that I trust and my customers trust me in reverse. I value them.
Maybe you think White Knight are unreliable, that is your choice or experience but I find just the opposite having sold quite a number.
I also think the element is easy to change and at a price of around £8 a real bargain.
Rob
PS I didn’t see any mention of anybody recommending an appliance because it would be unreliable so where did you get that from Phidom?March 26, 2008 at 1:08 pm #246821Phidom
ParticipantRe: What Tumble Drier?
I was referring to the reply by Lerch which I believe was tongue in cheek anyway. No, I don’t consider White Knight to be unreliable but I don’t know much about their current range (perhaps that in itself is a good recommendation for Crosslee because with Hotpoint I am seeing plenty of machines that have failed in the first 18 months or so).

Participantcant believe people are actually recomending white knight, unbelievable!. Used to fix them in first year of guarantee. When you go into someones house and see beko electric oven, indesit washer and white knight dryer you normally know what to expect from the cheapest appliances.
Think thay just have the edge over the hotpoint dryers though, just.March 31, 2008 at 5:55 pm #246823Madmac

EVERYTHING has the edge over a Hotpoint !! Nah, i think the old w/k is an honest old thing . But if you spent your days changing the circular elements i can see how that would grate..(often quite literally!) 😉

Yes, that was what I meant. You put the machine together and the element scrapes on the drum so you take the back off again and start trying to bend the brackets or loops of element to get some clearance. Usually it’s second time lucky but sometimes I’ve had to do the job 3 times to get quiet running.
You also have the job of lining up the back bearing plate with the panel each time……March 31, 2008 at 7:46 pm #246825Madmac
ParticipantRe: What Tumble Drier?
And then there was a number of elements i had a couple of years ago which had earth faults despite being straight out of the bag . I always run them without earth for a few mins now. But NOTHING scrapes like the recent hotpoints without the increased drum/backplate clearance.
HELL WOULD BE MORE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eeek:
