ParticipantHI,
I have a FP smartdrive 9 with now power, no led lights. opened up the controller and found some burn marks on the PCB..Corresponding with components on the other side scr’s?
Any ideas about typical faults. Probably need a new board?

Update..
Rang F&P customer care and they were very helpful. They suggested that the most likely cause of failure was a leaking pump that can cause a fault on the motor controller board. The costs would be New Board A$180, new pump A$80 and a callout of $110…total of A$370. a new machine is $A700.
I will have a go at fault finding the board…I assume it is a toasted power transistor.
Appreciate any feedback on fault finding on these controller boards.

There are various posts in this forum where people have attempted board level repairs, with varying degrees of success. I understand that re-con boards are available if you get stuck.
Leaks and dodgy wiring in the pump/motor area can cause flashback problems, so check round the bottom of the tub carefully.

Thanks for the reply Penguin45
I have trawled though the past posts and found some good info.

Update…
I did some fault finding on the board and found that the pcb mount fuse had blown and 2 of the insulated bipolar transistors (surface mount) had shorts, these are used to control the pump. so, i suspect a pump overload cooked the component. The part number for the transistor is IRG4RC10S and these are available for $11 for the local electronics store. But, delivery date is 3 days. So, i called into a washing machine wrecking business, operated by a couple of women, who knew a great deal about the unit. They gave me a faulty unit for parts as they dong get them re-furbed anymore because the refurbished boards had a history of early failure. I will cannibalise the unit for parts tonight and see if the unit powers-up.

The machine is now working.
A further inspection of the PCB showed that the surface mount MOSFET IRLL3303 had exploded (on both boards). Went to the local electronics store and picked up a replacement 9644(closest spec in stock). Replaced this and the other 2 blown power transformers (robbed from the spare board) and the machine is now working.Who knows how long it will work. Not sure if i would buy a F&P unit again?
