ParticipantI’m struggling to resolve a problem on a Hotpoint WM51 “First Edition” machine, about 10 year old. The door very difficult to latch shut.
The door seal is properly seated. I’ve changed the pressed steel hinge, the latch and the latch support plate (holds the latch to the door frame).
But it is still nearly impossible to shut. I’ve come across other machines of this type with difficult latches, but not this bad.
Is it worth trying a new door frame or the plastic part in front of the lock, or could the front of the machine be disorted in some way? What about front panel kit C00197883?
Hoping a there’s a Hotpoint veteran out there that can help out a relative newbie!

One leg of the latch spring will have disengaged in the latch plate.

Are the new parts OE or pattern? Some of the pattern Hotpoint door bits don’t fit properly.

As penguin says normaly the latch spring becoming disengaged or a leg broken on the spring, i sometimes put a little bend on the spring where it tensions on the latch to help it make contact with the interlock.

Thanks for tips, the latch spring is correctly located, all the parts I’ve tried are genuine, but maybe the lock cover plate (bezel) already on the machine is not (customer mentioned he’d had someone out previously with same problem a while ago).
It’s as though the latch is a bit too short so that it doesn’t reach behind the bezel unless pushed really hard, and then only every other time or so.

You could try a new interlock, they are not expensive.

If the latch spring is located it will definatly need a new interlock.

Its a long shot but may be worth checking. I remember the little plastic clips that secure the door bowl to the frame changed at one point and if they have been replaced with wrong ones they dont seat back properly sometimes making the door tight to shut.
