ParticipantHi,
I have a WTL6103GB which went faulty last week – not getting hot. I ordered the more expensive of the stats (thinking that was the one more likely to be the expensive looking one with the reset button – wrong!). So I then ordered the complete Element that comes with both stats and returned the “wrong” stat as it didn’t work out that much more. However although the dryer heats up the element only stays on for about 1-2 mins and refuses to come back on unless I power off/start again.Any ideas? I see from the Bosch site that there is yet another stat/temperature sensor just below the door – but as I cannot get the dryer to stay on even on “30 minute warm” cycle (which I thought ignored the internal temp sensors) maybe that is a red herring?
Is there something more serious/expensive that is wrong here?
Any other ideas most welcome.
Wish I’d found this site earlier!!

Are you running it with a load in? If not, a couple of minutes before shut down may be correct as there is little to no variation in the temperature gradient (thinks the stuffs dry).
Otherwise a relay dropping out under load on the power board is quite possible.

Thanks Penguin45
I wasn’t originally but I have now tried it with wet towels and no change.
Do you know what that sensor is/does at the front of the machine just below the door level – is it relevant at all – ie might it be causing the ‘no change in temperature’ you describe?
If not – I assume the power board is effectively meaning a new or recon “Power/Control Module” which looks incredibly expensive (ie not cost effective)??
thanks again

The probe in the duct is an NTC thermistor – it should read in Kohms, the reading should reduce as the temperature rises. I’m afraid I don’t know the exact values.
Power off if you need to get this involved.

Ok thanks again.
I think I’ll try replacing it (the NTC thermistor) then as the only other option seems to be to replace the main board?
I’ll be touch for a part number /price.
thanks

I take it the load was relatively damp?
Also the drum paddles (sensors) can become coated by fabric softener/scented sheets residue.
If the appliance is in a room which may at times be less than 5C, this will also give you this fault.Worth eliminating these before throwing anymore parts at it 😀

ok thanks for that gegsy.
Yes it was pretty wet.
How many sensors are in this thing then?! I hadn’t realised there were more in the drum too!
I have been doing the testing on the “30 minute warm timed” setting on the Bosch – normally this (i think) overrides the sensors – often we’ve used it when we want something v dry and not the machines “calculated/sensed” dry.
Do you know if the internal sensors/this NYC component are still used in this setting? If not I assume I’m back to faulty main control unit??

ParticipantFIXED – Re: BOSCH WTL6103GB Tumble Dryer Won’t Stay Hot
thanks for the tips. I ended up looking at the module – and sure enough there was an obvious dry joint by a Relay. I re-soldered that and now it’s all working fine.
I did manage to break the tabs on the front plate – they were very brittle.
Can I get a price for Bosch part number 433584 – the new fascia!
thanks again for your tips. Hope this post helps others.

Stumbled across this thread after doing the same things as Hampers. So just adding to the knowledge base.
My WTL6103GB did the same thing. Cleaned the condenser of all the gunk in it (The wife says “oh yeah, not cleaned that for a while”). I checked the thermastat (pressed the red button), checked the heater element, etc.
So having read this thread I eventually looked at the circuit board behind the front facia. Solder joint had failed on a relay just as for Hampers – very obvious. Re-soldered it and good to go. Saved £170.
The location (looking from the front of the dryer): There’s a group of 4 relays to the left of the rotating control. The top relay had the dry joint (failed solder).
Wonder if this is a common problem!
(PS I also broke some of those tabs on the Facia! Lever the facia from the bottom popping 4 or 5 platic pins out of holders rather than the top and then rotated it and you should probably be ok.)
