ModeratorHave seen this fault quite often, usually gunged up condenser, heater cavity full of condensation.
Normally a quick blast with a hair dryer around the element & stats plus a clean out of the condenser including the drain channel at the back of the condenser housing does the trick.
I did just that on Monday to one of these, although the condenser was not that bad, machine about two years old and the fault has returned on second use?
The pump is working, all the channels and condenser are clear. I removed the cabinet side to inspect the drum seals and was staggered to find the machine as clean as a new pin inside, not even a tiny layer of dust. 😯
What am I missing?

Job to tell really Jim? 😕 Did you have to use the hairdryer trick because of condensation on this machine last Monday? Did a short show up on the megger? Is the machine located in a damp environment?

I see this quite often, sometimes the machine has actually dried out by the time you get to it, on others there is obvious condensation all over the back panel and element etc. The hairdryer treament always clears the initial tripping fault.
In this instance the back was dry, there was the tiniest amount of leakage to earth, the needle barely flickered, the Alex Ferguson treatment cleared that very small leakage.
Decent location, clean, dry kitchen. 😕

I have tried the same trick with the hairdryer, but trips again a few
loads later. The only solution is to replace the heaters, i think its
down to poor quality insulators

RoyI think you mean down to poor quality period Roy. I have usually had no problems after the hairdryer, but I did have one other, also a CTD85 by coincidence that suffered a recurrence of this fault every few months, glad to say she is now the proud owner of an ISE 10 washer & t/dryer. 😉
I will see how this one goes, have changed one or two elements, mainly because the have just fallen apart. :rolls:

The only modiforication you need for a ctd dryer is to take it
down to the scrap yard, and crush it.April 4, 2008 at 7:49 pm #247932helo_75

i thought i would resurect this post i have had recurring problems with a ctd 85 water is getting into the rear fan and t gets thrown up onto the element and it trips.
i have cleaned the condenser pushed a cable tie down the channel at the back of the condenser and changed the pump but it still does it.
there seems to be water lying in the channel at the back of the condenser which does not drain down into the pump chamber even though i have pushed a cable tie down the hole the water does not drain down.
any ideas welcome.
