The flourescent tube that provides the backlight to the controls on our Creda 48339 has stopped working but I’m not sure if the problem is with the tube or the starter.

I’ve removed the tube and its a T5 13 Watt 530mm tube – first question, is there anything special about the original tube (heat resistant?) or can it be replaced with an equivalent standard tube?

I’ll try and see if the local electrical shop will test the old tube for me before I take the cooker apart again. If the tube is OK and it is the starter where is the starter located? – I couldn’t see one when I took the tube out.

Just out of interest, from your experience, is it more likely to be the tube or starter – the tube flickered intermittently before it died completely.

    Thanks in advance.

From memory it’s a standard tube and starter that you can buy in any decent hardware store. IME it’s usually just the tubes that go.

That’s great – thanks for confirming what I thought might be the case. 🙂

I would go with the tube as well.
If you do need the starter some are fitted next to the mains block, others are under the hob.

    HI Chrisdon

If the tube is turning black towards each end it will definately be faulty. We still sell loads of these tubes for the older cooker, must be something to do with the older customer we have in our neck of the woods lol.
