I am looking to buy a quality washing machine that will last more than just 4-5 years. My choice has come down to the ISE10 or a Miele. As I would carry out most repairs myself (outside the guarantee period) I was drawn to the ISE 10. What will parts availability and cost be to some one who is not in the trade? Can any quote some typical prices for items such as motor and control board? Is the ISE 10 the same as the Maytag MAF9501(or the Asko machines) but with a different badge on it? Which did a test on the Maytag and reported that it had poor rinsing and cottons performance and was noisy. This seems contradict what I have read in this forum.
Can the drop down door be removed, as I don’t have enough space for it open fully?
Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Re: ISE 10 Questions

    Hi CPG,

    Loads of questions! 🙂

We haven’t finalised spares pricing yet as it’s about 9 years until any of them are out of warranty in domestic use, three years more in light commercial use. That said, it is always the intent to be cheaper on spares than anyone else using comparable components. And, we don’t mark them up as others do as it discourages longevity.

Also, we used hardly any spares to date bar a couple of panels.

ISE10 spares, by their nature in being the best available, will likely cost a bit more than the 2 or 5 range. But as yet there’s no pricing set as there’s been no requirement.

Availability is not an issue trade or not, anything we can get anyone can get.

The ISE isn’t the same as the Maytag, different specification.

I recently put in the older 1400 machine here and I’ve had no problem with rinsing and it’s WAY quieter than the Blomberg (which was good) on noise. The only time I hear it is when it’s on spin and even then it’s not intrusive. That said, I’m not standing next to the machine listening to it.

Door removal we’re looking into, it is possible but does require a change of the front panel.

    Re: ISE 10 Questions

Thanks for that, sorry about the questions but I have trouble spending money so when I do I like to do my research. 😆
Do the Maytags use different components and design or is it that they are programmed differently?
I assume that UKWG will sell parts but will they also be available from local outlets? My local supplier is very good and the ability get parts quickly is a real bonus.
Removing the drop down door is going to be more involved than just taking out a couple of screws? Does that mean I will have to order a specially modified machine and will it cost more than the standard?
Is the ISE 10 as quiet as a Meile?
I am sorry, more questions than a five year old on a long car journey.:)
    Thanks again.

    No problems, answers as below.

A bit of both, the basic frame is the same design though.

Yes, any trade supplier can get spares as can the public, there’s no restriction.

No, not a two minute job I’m afraid.

The idea is to be able to that on installation as that’s the best, most effective way. It also means that it can be done if someone moves etc.

Noise is a subjective thing and each will find it different under dfferent circumstances, but the ISE10 could certainly not be considered noisy.

Loads more about it in this article I wrote a while back.

    No problem at all.

    I’m a fussy customer – that’s why I bought an ISE10.

I’d be happy to assure you that the ISE10 is a very quiet machine.

Thank you both for your comments, its much appreciated. Interesting article on sound, it didn’t occur to me that the setting would have an influence.

Yeah, what’s round about the machine and the acoustic properties of the room and surroundings have far, far more effect than the noise level of the actual machine.

The dB ratings are, for the most part, pretty meaningless for the most part in reality.

Having been into Hi-Fi and sound in general, especially using more that two speakers, I have a pretty good understanding of how sound works and how that ratings for sound, be it in Wattage output of amps or dB ratings, have little or no meaning in a real world situation.

People still use the dB rating as a yardstick though to determine how noisy anything is and it’s extremely misleading at best. It only measures the sound pressure in the given situation, not all situations and can only be used as a yardstick if they are all tested in exactly the same manner which we all know they aren’t.

Sound is so incredibly hard to measure as it is a very subjective thing to try to quantify.

    Re: ISE 10 Questions

Are there any of the 1400 spin machines still available? To be honest, I would be happy with 1200 and would prefer the machine to have a wider range of spin speeds. Higher speeds just mean more energy consumption for not a vast amount of gain.

No, I’m afraid not and there is only the 1600 now available.

    Re: ISE 10 Questions

Hey I’m not an employee of ISE. Just a – so far – satisfied customer.

I think ISE have got things right when it comes to the number of programmes and spin speeds.

Our previous machine was an AEG, well a Zanussi in a party frock, and it had more features than you could shake a stick at and I’d guess we only ever used a tiny fraction of them.

It all reminds me of the “Not The Nine o’Clock News” sketch about the guy who goes into the hi fi shop and asks for features.
