I got an urgent plea from a customer : “Please help us get our hamster back…please?”

Their pet hamster had broken free from his ‘roller ball thingy’ whilst the kids were playing with it in the kitchen and shot under the cupboard units by the dishwasher. They could’nt get the kick board off to see where it was either and were desperate for someone to help find it?

Problem for me was they live 32.9 miles from me in Sunningdale and the earliest I could call was today (Friday) and they were phoning on Tuesday evening! I suggested they try someone local (RSPCA even?)…..

They could hear their pet hampster (called Montegue in fact :rolls:) all the while squeaking from the area of the dishwasher and were convinced it was inside somewhere?……gutting but I couldn’t do nothing my end….

Next thing I know is the lady rang me yesterday to say she was convinced the hamster was now dead as a rotting smell pervaded the kitchen, and could I still call tomorrow and find it?

I get there this morning (chuffing great mansion in the grounds of Sunningdale Golf Course) and all the family are in the kitchen….waiting 😯

I drag out the dishwasher and take the side panel off….there jammed between the side panel and the tub is poor Montegue….stiff and stinking….the family shreak out in horror at seeing the poor creature. I tactfully grab it between 2 kitchen rolls and chuck it in the bin (I don’t do subtle in cases like this! 8) )

The family disperse and return shortly after I have cleaned up the crime scene and put the machine back. They insist a ‘family funeral service’ is their next move and would I be so kind as to take Montegue out on the pedal bin and place it in this lovingly prepaired shoe box in preparation for a formal burial?

“All part of the service madam”. I reply…….that’ll be £75.50 please?

She paid…I left with my head tactfully bowed… 😉 Poor Montegue! 😥

    Re: Family tragedy!

Kinda reminds me of a job i was at a couple of yeare ago. While putting a new element in a fan oven i noticed a lot of scratching noises coming from the cavity wall behind the cooker.

Thinking she may have a rodent prob, i told the lass to come & have a listen. ‘oh no, thats just the birds that get in under the eaves & get trapped in the wall’ God, what a heartless bitch i thought, it had apparently been happening for years and they could’nt be arsed blocking the hole. The cavity must have been full of dead birds !

She seen how shocked i was & said she would get hubby to try to get it out & block where they were getting in, debatable if anything was ever done, some people have no heart 🙁

I once removed a dryer vent from the back of a dryer to find to little cat with his legs sticking out the end.
