ParticipantA customer phones to say his 5yr old daughter had stepped on the door glass of their Hotpoint WMA64 to get to the cupboard above the worktop. When they switched the machine on there was a bang, smoke came from the control panel and it now doesn’t work!!! π―
Knowing that WMA Interlocks are notorious for blowing the Module anyway, I called by yesterday to take a look?
Sure enough the Interlock has blown the module and the drum bearings rumble like a good ‘un on this 5+ year old machine, I recommended it be classed as BER.
“Oh!” Says the customer, “would you mind telling that to my insurance company then? Wait one and I’ll ring them now!” He gets them on the phone and passes it to me. I report my findings to the insurance man and he agrees to arrange for a new replacement machine.
My customer pays my call-out and the deal is done, he’s chuffed at the thought of getting a brand new machine only for the price of the excess on his household insurance policy of just Β£75.
One thing I did note whilst I was there was that the door glass was covered in a thick layer of dust. If his precious 5yr old had in fact put her foot anywhere near the glass then that dust would have a footprint on it or at least disturbed in some way? As I was escorted to the door by my happy customer I discreetly suggested he may have been a little lyrical with the truth? With a wry smile his reply was that he lived in a very dusty house! π π π

This Reminds me of a job I was called to ,on first contact by phone the customer asked if I would give a free estimate on how much it would cost to repair his bendix washing machine that had been damage in a flood from a blocked waste pipe ? . β NO I donβt give free estimates but if you would like my time a charge will be made and he will have to pay and reclaim this back π .ok he said , around I went
The bendix machine was about 13yrs old and pretty well on its last legs to look at , The machine has been tripping the fuses he tells me , since the flood ?, :rolls:
The flood to me was or never was much more than a bucket and half of water, ! π₯
The reason the machine was tipping the fuses was the tub was leaking, rusted at the suspension leg weld, and had dripped water for a very long time on to motor.(tripping the fuses for a blo..dy long time!) me thinks β Put my findings in to the invoice. He then went around the house robbing jars , sofa pockets For my fee, β¦β¦..then off I goβ¦β¦
Two days later his insurance company phone me up can I confirm the fault with machine, and how the flood damage it, (HE STILL THINKS THE FLOOD DAMAGED IT)!
To which I said , unless the flood water was very salty , and had made the tub rust through in the two hours that the flood had arrived then I think the pisβ¦.s was being taken .
Thank you said insurance man, claim rejected. π
SO some times there can be a come back on this type of pisβ¦.s take.
So I always say what I see, π

It is amazing what people think will be covered by house insurance.
I always give an analogy of a mechanical failure on their car not being covered by their motor insurance policy.. sometimes the penny then drops.. :rolls:
Thing is, its far from a victim less scam.. where do they think the money comes from.. Mars ??

Yes we have this now and again, there are those who seem to claim whenever and for whatever they can no wonder insurance premiums go up ! The thing is that all Insurance companies now share claims information on a central database which they say is for the provention of fruad. Most insurance companies these days will no longer pay out cash for claims prefering to replace whatever has been lost or damaged with a near or like product from there own selected suppliers and ranges as I understand it.
