ParticipantHi,
I have an RLA30 Fridge that is just over 2 years old. Recently we noticed that things seem to be getting very cold – it froze some chicken last week!
First assumed that 3yo son had messed with the control, but it’s on ‘3’ as usual.
Over at least the last couple of weeks, whenever I go to the fridge, the compressor is running. If I move the stat down the tiniest fraction, it stops. If I turn it back up to max (or down to min?) nothing happens, suggesting -to me anyway- that the temperature is below the minimum.
It seems that the contacts on the stat are ‘sticking’ once they close, causing the compressor to run permanently until it gets a nudge. I can’t see a replacement stat in the shop – is one available?
BTW – To confirm my suspicions I intend to borrow a datalogger + thermocouple this evening and monitor the temperature overnight to see what’s happening. If interesting, I’ll post the results.
Hope someone can help…
Thanks,
Simon

Sounds like a stat failure to me….. Full model number and serial number required to identify as there are early and late thermostats.

ParticipantThanks Mr Penguin.
FYI, I measured it overnight and wouldn’t you know, it seeemed to be working fine! The middle shelf went from 4°C to 1°C on roughly a 3-hour cycle, with the top being +2° and the bottom shelf -1°. Both middle & bottom shelves touched -1°C but only for about 1/2 hr.
Sounds normal to me…
Whatever – I’m sure the stat’s on it’s way out, so I’ll check the plate when I get back home for full info and post back.
Cheers,
Simon
