Probably a field coil to earth. Seen it many times. There’s not a lot you can do at this point – unless you have a secondhand motor to donor the field coil. Hotpoint used to do this as the GEC type motor was being phased out. They used to include a slip of paper with their new motors to say that due to Hotpoint’s commitment to recycling and the environment, they were using recycled end frames and stators and fitting new armatures and brushes.
Ahhh, how nice of them. We had been doing that for years – we just called them recon motors.
The FHP is the only motor to fit in it’s place now. Better motor than the GEC IMHO, and about £42 ish + VAT. Not too bad. 😉
